The Magic House, the St. Louis Children’s Museum, is located in the suburb of Kirkwood about 25 minutes from downtown. Before opening as a museum in 1979, it was the home of George Lane Edwards, the director of the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition and the president of the St. Louis Stock Exchange. The museum is considered to be the best children’s museum in the country.

The exhibits cover everything from demonstrations of science to the Lewis & Clark journey to the St. Louis Rams to the US government. Each exhibit has a specific age range, so children between the ages of 1-16 have things to see in the Magic House.

As someone who is not between the ages of 1-16 and does not have a child between the ages of 1-16, I must admit that it was a pretty awkward trip. While the staff was very courteous, the parents at all the exhibits were giving me awkward stares. That said, this is a wonderful place to take children and I would highly recommend that you go to this museum with children.
